Organization (IFDO)
ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
IFDO was founded in 1994, to help rural households in Tramkok District, Takeo Province, support themselves by responsibly managing their own resources. IFDO has a board of directors and experienced field and administrative staff, comprised of three women and five men – all are non-paid, dedicated volunteers who were born, reared, and live in Tramkok. Registered with the Ministry of council, our organization is non-governmental, non-political, independent, and neutral.
The International Friendship Development Organization (IFDO) of Cambodia, founded in 1994,IFDO has shifted its priority toward its humanitarian activities in Tramkok District, Takeo Province, Cambodia. They are the ongoing activities of IFDO for over 17 years (since before becoming UNHCR partner in 2006) Our organization is registered with the Council of Ministers as a Non-Governmental Organization and assists the development of Cambodia.
From our research, we know that poverty reduction must be our first priority but one activity will not resolve it. IFDO therefore has initiated diverse programs to meet the most critical needs of the people we serve: these include the improvement of rural household incomes; agriculture; health, nutrition, and sanitation; infrastructure building; plus education and training.
From 2006 up to the present, IFDO secured the partnership with United Nations High commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in providing welfare services to the Montagnard and urban refugees housed in Phnom Penh by providing food, shelter, health-care, education and vocational training. A total of 1,018 refugees were served from 2006 to 2012. IFDO also provides supplies and materials for refugees repatriated to Vietnam as part of the services.
The most critical needs for the communities we serve are:(1) food security, Climate Change and skills for income generation for poor women and their families ; (2) gender awareness and violence against women (3) village working women (group to increase women's ability and self-confidence, Safe Migration and Reduced Trafficking ,Fighting Rural Poverty with Profit and environmental, Clean water ,Sanitation and Health); (4) advocacy for women's and children's rights and refugee's rights (providing medical care, food and non-food distribution, and social protection).cash incentives to children/ families for enrolling in school regularly. skill training, English class, Its aims are to alleviate poverty in the community and to promote women's and children's rights, education, environment, health’s. So that they will not become victim of domestic violence within their community.
